In the footsteps of Carlo Carrà

During his long and inspired stays in Forte, the painter Carlo Carrà did not limit himself to portraying magnificent views of Fiumetto. He immersed himself fully in the Versilian landscape, capturing its many facets and fixing on canvas original details of everyday life. His paintings feature solitary beach huts by the shore, enormous oxen lying peacefully in the sun, Apuan vistas, and curious scenes of local life. These works were selected and reproduced by the Ente per le Ville Versiliesi, chaired by Fernanda Giulini, in collaboration with photographer Luca Carrà, grandson of the artist, and the Municipality of Forte dei Marmi, under the auspices of the Superintendence for Fine Arts and Landscape of the Provinces of Lucca and Massa-Carrara. The aim was to create an art-and-landscape itinerary across Versilia: a pleasant, enjoyable route best explored by bicycle. The itinerary winds between the mouth of Fiumetto and Vittoria Apuana, passing the small bridges of Roma Imperiale, the Church of Sant’Ermete, the Fortino, the Quarto Platano, and the fountain in Piazza Garibaldi, the Pontile, and the seafront, featuring more than thirty-nine works and twenty-eight observation points in total.
