Forte dei Marmi, a bicycle-friendly town

Since 2020, Forte dei Marmi has been officially designated as a “Comune Ciclabile” (Bicycle-Friendly Municipality). This certification, granted by FIAB – Federazione Italiana Ambiente e Bicicletta, Italy’s top cycling and environmental association, recognizes local governments that actively put into practice effective policies to encourage daily cycling.

The FIAB ComuniCiclabili program assesses the overall bike-friendliness of Italian towns, considering infrastructure, services, and policies that make a destination suitable for both residents and tourists to experience by bicycle.

Based on the sum of each municipality’s infrastructure and actions in favor of bicycle mobility, FIAB assigns scores summarized in the number of “bicycles” shown on the flag, ranging from a minimum of one to a maximum of five for the most virtuous municipalities. In 2025, Forte dei Marmi confirmed – for the fourth consecutive year – its rating of four bicycles.

Cycling Routes and Paths

Forte dei Marmi covers an area of approximately 9 square kilometers. The entire municipality is flat, and all streets accessible by bicycle are immersed in the greenery of pinewoods and gardens. Throughout the year, residents and visitors alike use bicycles to reach the beach, go shopping, enjoy sports activities, or simply relax.

There is no better way to reach the many events held in venues dedicated to art, culture, and entertainment, or to explore the area and discover its most charming corners.

Among the numerous suggested cycling itineraries is the Carlo Carrà Route in Versilia, marked by reproductions of paintings created en plen air by the artist during his stays in Forte dei Marmi and the surrounding area (further information is available on the dedicated page).

To facilitate cycling along roads with heavier vehicle traffic, the following cycle and shared pedestrian-cycle paths are available:

  • Vittoria Apuana, Via P.I. da Carrara 462 m long (from Via Francesco Carrara to the seafront)
  • Seafront Promenade (Viale Italico and Viale della Repubblica) in the section from Vittoria Apuana to Forte dei Marmi, which extends for 4750 m. The seaside cycle and pedestrian path is part of the entire Versilia route and the Tyrrhenian cycle path
  • Via XX Settembre 758 m long
  • Via Fosso coperto 600 m long
  • Via Mascagni 558 m long
  • Via Ponchielli 558 m long
  • Via Versilia 1167 m long (section between Via Francesco Carrara and Via Mazzini).
