Una sala del Museo Quarto Platano di Villa Bertelli a Forte dei Marmi

QUARTO PLATANO MUSEUM OF MODERN ART

A tribute to 20th-century art

Housed on the entire second floor of the 19th-century Villa Bertelli in Vittoria Apuana, the Museo d’Arte Moderna Quarto Platano is devoted to the flourishing cultural scene of the Quarto Platano. It celebrates the artists and intellectuals – and their works, many conceived and created in Forte dei Marmi – who shaped it over several decades of the last century.

The rooms of the museum present works by around thirty leading figures from the last century’s art (including Campigli, Carena, Carrà, Dazzi, De Chirico, De Grada, Guttuso, Manzù, Montale, Moore, Mattioli, Soffici, Treccani).

Paintings line the walls, while sculptures and original period publications (posters, magazines, photographs, books, and letters) are displayed at the heart of the galleries. Along the perimeter, a continuous narrative installation is dedicated solely to reproductions (paintings, photographs, texts, etc.), iconographic references for the works on display, and local history.

The museum layout unfolds as a seamless journey through four thematic sections: the first is dedicated to works donated to Fondazione Bertelli by the Dazzi family; the second, introduced by a section on the area’s cultural history, opens onto the prominent artists of the twentieth century; the fourth and final section focuses on post-war authors.
