Founded in 1919 and historically housed in Piazza Marconi, the Municipal Library has become, following its 2018 renovation by architect Michelangelo Chiti, one of Forte dei Marmi’s cultural highlights. Inspired by cutting-edge Nordic and American library models, it features advanced technology with tablets and computers, and offers users innovative, immersive experiences.
The Library’s collection comprises approximately 17,500 items, spanning contemporary culture in many forms: modern collections, monographs, periodicals, audio and audiovisual materials, foreign-language publications, and resources for the visually impaired.
Inside, visitors will find two reading rooms, one of which is dedicated to children and young people aged 0-13, thoughtfully designed with bespoke furnishings and a rich, age-specific collection.
Overlooking the courtyard is a suspended sculpture by Emanuele Giannelli, set within the Corte, the Library’s vertical garden. This welcoming space includes a café and comfortable, informal seating and regularly hosts small events, book presentations, and readings.
Forte dei Marmi’s Library also has a strong digital presence: just click here to visit the rooms, access general information, and consult the book archive.
All titles can be searched by visiting this website or via smartphone, using the bibliolucc@ app, available on major app stores.
Books may be requested for loan or in-library consultation.
