Una scultura di Arturo Dazzi a Forte dei Marmi
Art in the city

Marble sailors

“Sailors with rifles,” marble men watching over Forte dei Marmi.
With their gaze towards the sea and stance exuding pride, the Sailors are a masterpiece by the renowned Arturo Dazzi. They stand at the gates of the town, welcoming us as a living tribute to the sailors so dear to Forte dei Marmi.

The Tuscan sculptor and painter had his house and studio exactly in Forte dei Marmi. He conceived and created several of his sculptures there, including the prodigious concrete and marble obelisk dedicated to scientist Guglielmo Marconi, rising in the heart of the Eur district in Rome. From the obelisk to the Sailors, via monumental sculptures and paintings steeped with intense realism, Dazzi’s artwork is history.
