Fiorello premiato nell'edizione 2023 del Premio Satira Forte dei Marmi

THE INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL SATIRE PRIZE

Italy’s most unapologetically irreverent prize

Founded in 1973, the Premio Internazionale di Satira Politica Forte dei Marmi (the International Political Satire Prize) is awarded each year to leading cultural and artistic figures who have distinguished themselves in satire, humor, and entertainment. For more than fifty years, the Prize has helped establish Forte dei Marmi as a recognized stronghold of sharp, irreverent, and often delightfully improper social and political critique. The Prize is organized by the Municipality of Forte dei Marmi and, since 2019, has been directed by Beppe Cottafavi – editor, semiologist, creator of Comix, and head of cultural coverage at the Italian daily Domani. The awards ceremony traditionally takes place in September at the Capannina di Franceschi.

Over the decades, Forte dei Marmi has honored the satirical bite of an extraordinary range of prominent writers, journalists, cartoonists, comedians, and artists – Italian and international. This includes filmmakers Mario Monicelli, Nanni Moretti, Dino Risi and Paolo Virzì, writers Alberto Arbasino, Andrea Camilleri, Achille Campanile, Fruttero & Lucentini, Leonardo Sciascia and Cesare Zavattini, actors Roberto Benigni, Dario Fo, Gigi Proietti and Carlo Verdone, journalists Enzo Biagi, Maurizio Costanzo, Indro Montanelli and Michele Serra, authors Antonio Amurri and Dino Verde, Gianni Boncompagni, Antonio Ricci and Enrico Vaime, cartoonists Altan, Bruno Bozzetto, ElleKappa, Makkox, Sergio Staino, Vincino, Zerocalcare and Fumettibrutti, as well as popular entertainers such as Renzo Arbore, Aldo Giovanni e Giacomo, Claudio Bisio, Paola Cortellesi, Geppi Cucciari, Fiorello, Gene Gnocchi, Corrado and Sabina Guzzanti, Serena Dandini, Ficarra e Picone, Pif, Valerio Lundini, Michela Giraud and Virginia Raffaele. The award has also been won by various television programs such as Blob, Drive In, Striscia La Notizia, and Le Iene, and radio programs such as Caterpillar, Il ruggito del coniglio, La Zanzara, and 610. Beyond Italy’s borders, the Prize has also recognized – among others – Liza Donnelly, Jules Feiffer, Garry Trudeau, David Levine, Mikhail Zlatkovsky, Gore Vidal, Fran Lebowitz, and, in 1993, French cartoonist Tignous, who was killed in 2015 in the terrorist attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo.
